  • a name for God

    January 21, 2008

  • Love it.

    January 21, 2008

  • Wow. Don't tell me no one has a names-of-God list. Would that turn Wordie into a Kabbalistic endeavor?

    January 21, 2008

  • Hey! Perhaps I could actually put my A.B. in Religion to use...

    January 21, 2008

  • I'm pretty sure someone has a list of names of God, although I can't remember which Wordie it is. Uselessness has a splendid afterlife list.

Anyway, if we have room for specific excrement, we most certainly have room for God.

You will never see or hear that sentence again.

    January 21, 2008

  • Michaelchang made the list In Gods Name.

    January 21, 2008

  • Hm. That's a good list. But I imagine just names and appellations for the God of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition would make a pretty interesting list.

Maybe I'll tackle it after checking the lightning rod on my roof.

  • "Anyway, if we have room for specific excrement, we most certainly have room for God."

Here, Reesetee is using a debating strategy commonly known as the "man on the moon" argument, from its ubiquitous deployment in phrases such as:

"If we can put a man on the moon, then:"

'we should be able to find a cure for the common cold"

"we should be able to invent an umbrella that doesn't come apart in the first storm"

    "why not all of them?"

The key aspect of the argument is the complete unrelatedness of the condition to the remainder of the sentence.

But yes, if we can list over 180 different animal adjectives, then we should surely manage a list of names for God.

  • Thank you, sionnach. That's certainly what I intended. *bowing*

And now, back to our regularly scheduled comments, already in progress.

    January 21, 2008

  • tee hee!

    January 21, 2008

  • Y'all inspired me. ;-)

    January 22, 2008

  • Oooo, good use of y'all. One point for The Uselessness.

    January 22, 2008

  • I had a list of eight million, nine hundred ninety-nine thousand, nine hundred ninety-nine names for God, but I gave up at that point.
